scrap the electricity and gas standing charge
about a year ago gas and electricity companies sneaked in standing charge on meters up to 28p a day per meter. I only found this out when I ran out of gas and went to top up only to find i was 30 pounds in debit to BG. People on a tight budget can't afford this and it needs scrapped

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. Decisions about scrapping standing charges are the responsibility of energy companies.
We could accept a petition calling on the government to legislate in order to ban the use of standing charges.
