MPs who attempted to abuse the expenses system should have their benefits removed
Being a representative of the democratic process requires MPs to genuinely demonstrate values of honesty, professionalism and careful spending of taxpayers money.
The expenses scandal exposed a wide range of expense claims abuses - this ranged from false claims to claims that were within the rules but attempted to extract the maximum amount of money to fund lavish tastes - an example of this is one MPs claim in 2006 for £7000 for designer furniture for his house.
This 'looting' of the public purse should not be tolerated.
MPs who are judged to have made excessive and/or dishonest claims should have their benefits - i.e right to claim expenses - removed. This should send a signal to all MPs that they are role models for the wider public and need to be responsible.
