Earliest UK EU membership referendum date to be 1 year after signed EU agreement

Petition Details

The UK EU membership referendum is a critical vote for all UK citizens. PM Cameron stated he is not in a hurry to hold it. The British people must be given enough time to debate and discuss this vital matter in an open and democratic manner across the country, as happened with the Scottish Indyref.

Additional Information

Time between Royal Assent for Scottish Referendum Bill and date of vote: 10 months. UK EU membership just as important. Scottish Parliament and UK local elections in Spring 2016 will interfere with thorough debates and discussions on BREXIT. A Referendum is not just an opinion poll or marketing exercise to sell consumers a product. It is a democratic process of discussion, debate, and opinion formation requiring adequate discussion time for voters to understand issues and make up their minds.
