Link University Tuition Fees to the Hours Required for a Degree and Minimum Wage
Currently, university costs most full time students £9000, which for students aged 21+ would take them 1343 hours to earn and 1698 hours for 18-20 year olds on minimum wage, the rate a lot of students earn at. Whilst contact hours are variable across institutions, subjects and years of study ...
the hours that are required to earn the degree are reasonably consistent and the vast majority of the time advertised at the beginning of the course. 100 hours of work, be it in lectures, completing assignments etc. are often required for 10 credits, and 120 credits are typically undertaken each year. We ask the government to link tuition fees to the hours of work put in and the minimum wage so that students are charged no more than they would earn on minimum wage working for the same duration.
