Allow pharmacists to have basic prescribing rights for minor illnesses
Pharmacists already play a vital role in the local community. On the continent pharmacists play an active role by prescribing antibiotics for minor illnesses and providing emergency prescriptions. In England we face increasing pressures on A&E and GP primary care we ask the UK government to discuss
There is growing evidence that commissioning pharmacists to undertake basic prescribing duties will ease significant NHS challenges. such as :
- A & E pressures
- GP pressures
In Spain and Portugal ( amongst other counties ) pharmacists provide a walk-in service where they will consult and issue prescriptions for more minor illnesses, and yet, in the UK we under estimate the resource we have available.
