Letting Agency Fee for Tenants to be appropriate and uniform across the industry

Petition Details

The Letting Agencies across the country has now started advertising their tenancy fees as required by law. But this has not helped the tenants much as the variance in the amount charged by various agents is very high. Some letting agents are a monopoly in their areas and charge very high fees.

Additional Information

The tenants in principle needs to pay for credit referencing for tenants (Credit agencies charge up to £10/head),collection of references from employers and previous landlords(cost : man hours for email/post/ telephone, postal & call charges) & processing fee. Some companies also charge a tenancy agreement preparation fee up to £300.If there is a template agreement, all it takes is changing the landlord, house and tenant details and may be few clauses.Which would take few mins.Make it affordable
