Toby Helm highlights the huge concern over the under-representation of women in Parliament.

In 2014-15, 23% of MP's in the House of Commons are female.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The selection of candidates in seats is the responsibility of political parties and not the UK Government and Parliament as a whole.

You could start a petition calling on Parliament to pass a law requiring parties to introduce gender quotas for elections to the UK Parliament.
