%2D Provide better funding for mental health care - Raise awareness in schools
The government cut mental health funding recently by 8%, 1 in 4 people in the UK will suffer from a mental health problem (including children) and will require help and treatment.
It is vital that materials are available in schools, so that children are well informed about mental illness.
In England mental health is clearly a growing problem as:
- 1 in 4 will suffer from a mental health illness at any given year.
- Nearly 3 in 4 young people fear the reactions of their friends when they talk about their mental health problems with them.
- 90% of people who die through suicide in the UK are experiencing mental distress.
- 17 in 100 people have suicidal thoughts.
- About 4% of children between the age of 5-16 suffer anxiety or depression.
- 9 out of 10 will suffer stigma.
