Petition Action

To prevent children accessing inappropriate material on YouTube.

Petition Details

At present there are an ever increasing number of videos on YouTube that show favorite children’s characters with voice-overs that contain very strong language often of a sexual nature. Further many videos on YouTube contain material that is very inappropriate for children.

Additional Information

To oblige the video sharing platform to insist that any person uploading any video categories it as being suitable:

(a) for all children:
(b) for children over 5 years old;
(c) for children over 10 years old;
(d) for children over 15 years old; and
(e) for adults over the age of 18 years only.

The video sharing platform shall use voice technology to determine where expletives are being used within the dialogue of categorized videos and ensure the use of words is age appropriate.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. This would be a decision for YouTube.

You could start a new petition calling on Parliament to change the law, to make these videos illegal on all sites.
