to reject the Government's rushed plans to create a mayor of East Anglia
This petition calls on Parliament to reject the Government's poorly-thought through and rushed plans for a mayoralty and combined assembly for East Anglia. Cambridge City Council & Cambs-P'boro LEP have given detailed reasons for rejecting the plans.
This is an example of very poor policy-making by Central Government. The only mention of 'elected mayors' in the Conservative Party manifesto for 2015 was in the context of the 'Northern Powerhouse' and large cities. Thus there was no public debate in the election campaign in 2015 about any East Anglia mayor or regional assembly. There was also no 'Green Paper' consultation on the plans
