Petition Details

Children under 12 don’t need a licence. However, if you take a child under 12 fishing and hold the rod or help hold it you must buy a licence for yourself. Which means if your 3 year old wants to try fishing and needs help at any point the mum or dad could potentially get a £2000 fine.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition in its current form as it does not call for a clear action from the UK Government and Parliament. You could start a petition calling on the Government to allow parents to supervise a child fishing without purchasing a fishing licence.
