Petition Action

Condemn the unjust practices of many local councils and Housing associations.

Petition Details

There are many 'regeneration' programmes whereby estates are being demolished against the wishes of the majority of tenants and leaseholders. Leaseholders are offered very little for their compulsory purchased homes and offered flats at twice the price which they can ill afford and so made homeless

Additional Information

Many of these estates have fallen into disrepair due to the negligence of landlords and it seems that residents are now to pay for this negligence. This situation is taking place at the moment in Ham in Richmond, the Ham Close regeneration project. The problem in a Hendon estate was highlighted in the recent TV programme on BBC (15h March) - 'The Estate we're in'. It shows the impossibility of fighting the system and how the rights of the poor are being sacrificed for the benefit of the rich.
