Petition Action

Debate smoking inside shared buildings and flats. Unavoidable passive smoking.

Petition Details

Neighbours smoking inside shared buildings/ flats is a real issue of health and quality of life for many families and children. As more flats are built in the UK's towns/ cities it is now more relevant for discussion. Current position is rights of the smoker favoured of a majority of those effected

Additional Information

Relying on the implementation of a lease alteration for smoking is not practical. It is expensive, complicated and involves all parties being willing to adopt.

The health effects of passive smoking are well documented as are the damage it has on young children.

Home insurance premiums may be proportionately higher as a smoker lives in the building. Heating bills may be higher as those affected open windows to combat the smoke.

Many of the UK's homes are old and cannot be made 'air tight'.
