End profiteering from political office
Politicians must not use their role in government as a credential-building exercise for lucrative deals after Parliament.
After leaving office, former PM Tony Blair has secured lucrative advisory deals with a US investment bank and Middle East nations. Alongside this, Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling have taken equally-lucrative advisory roles with investment firms.
This raises 'conflict of interest' questions about the decisions they made in Parliament regarding the Middle East and the financial crisis. If we do not introduce some form of cap system or ethical code we will draw the worst characters to office.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACOBA) already considers applications under the business appointment rules about new jobs for former ministers, senior civil servants and other Crown servants. You can find out more about ACOBA here:
www.gov.uk/government/organisations/advisory-committee-on-business-appointments
You could start a new petition calling for a specific change to the rules on the employment of former ministers.
