Make MPs declare their tax arrangements. Make them accountable to parliament.
MPs should be discouraged from avoiding or evading the payment of tax. Declaring their direct and connected family interests in this regard would make their actions as representatives more transparent, particularly when increasing spending or implementing public sector spending cuts.
In line with seven principles of public life:
SELFLESSNESS
INTEGRITY
OBJECTIVITY
ACCOUNTABILITY
OPENNESS
HONESTY
LEADERSHIP
MPs should publish their tax arrangements in the register of members interests and be held accountable to the committee of standards in public life. This needs to be facilitated by changes to current legislation.
