Legally require MPs to declare assets, investments & business interests.
Legislatures must be impartial. Personal assets, investments & interests can cause conflict of interest. We need a public register to improve accountability & transparency with independent investigation & punitive measures (dismissal from office) for those who mislead/refuse to reveal information.
Our elected officials represent us, the voter, they are the custodians of power. However personal interests, assets & investments could lead MPs to make decision which benefit them more than their constituents, or society. A publicly available register of interest would give voters the power to scrutinise decisions made and hold MPs to account through independent investigation if they felt decisions had been influenced by personal interests or would result in personal gain.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We're not sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take. MPs are already required to declare financial and some other interests in public registers. You can find out more about House of Commons registers here: http://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/standards-and-financial-interests/parliamentary-commissioner-for-standards/registers-of-interests/
