Petition Action

Wood burning stoves should require a licence and regulated for nuisance.

Petition Details

Wood stoves create smoke and fumes that are unpleasant and dangerous to health. The government see these devices as cheap energy. Smoke and fumes produce particulates as harmful to health as diesels or secondary cigarette smoke. This fashion accessory is dangerous not romantic.

Additional Information

Building regulations are in force to ensure construction is safe, the clean air act is there to make the air we breath as safe as possible, Environmental Health officers are there to prevent nuisance.
Building control ignore there own rules and do not take notice of wind effect on the way smoke and fumes enter homes, Environmental Health are reluctant to make a nuisance case because the government policy is to support them, the clean air act is ignored. You cannot keep smoke and fumes out of your home and those with a duty of care ignore the risks. Even DEFRA do not know the full risks in there support of wood burning. Once installed of course anything is burnt. They need regulating and licencing.
