Why do MPs deserve a pay rise when our Troops do not?

Petition Details

Government proposed pay freeze of 1% for the UK Armed Forces is an insult when compared with the self voted 11% pay rise of MP's.

Additional Information

As you, the Government, wish to freeze the pay of the Armed Forces, perhaps you should freeze MPs pay first, and that of the PM. Alternatively you could debate why MPs that do not place they're lives in danger deserve a pay rise when our Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen do not.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Government and Parliament don’t have the power to set MPs’ pay. That power was given by Parliament to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) in 2010, so that after 2012 MPs no longer had control over their own pay. IPSA conducted a public consultation after 2012 and decided what the salaries of MPs should be after the election.
