Create a system for doctors to refer patients with two or more cancer symptom.
Mum presented many cancer symptoms over two years each treated individually, and the lump diagnosed as a cyst. She actually had advanced ovarian cancer. If she had been tested on symptoms being first presented she would have had a better chance of survival.
Professor Graham Neale found 15% misdiagnosed as minor ailments.
Early diagnosis of ovarian cancer has a survival rate of 90% rather than 5% for advanced stages of the disease and 70% compared to 14% in lung cancer.
Diagnostic routes range between 12 and 38% of cancer cases diagnosed by Doctor referrals between 3% and 58% are diagnosed through hospital admissions. The majority presented at hospital and were far more advanced. One year survival rates were lower for those presenting at hospital.
