Free Paratrooper Albert Patterson from prison

Petition Details

Paratrooper Albert Patterson was sentenced to 15 months for possession of a 9mm pistol – a war trophy which was taken from an Argentine officer during the Falklands War. We continue to treat our soldiers as if they are criminals, we haul them before courts for war crimes and keeping trinkets

Additional Information

How many times have we heard of Muslim terrorists walking the streets with impunity, yet let a British soldier cross the line and he's behind bars before you can say Islam. Our soldiers are not the ones we should be seeking to jail.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Government and Parliament are not responsible for releasing people from prison. You could ask the Government to ask the Queen to exercise the prerogative of mercy.

You could also start a new petition calling on Parliament to change the law, to prevent cases like this happening in the future. This is likely to be more effective than asking for a court sentence to be overturned.
