Petition Action

We ask government for police surveillance of ballot papers from issue to count.

Petition Details

This surveillance would be to cover any and all movement of uncompleted and unused papers as well as completed papers. We are raising this petition in view of some disputed results indicating malpractice in the last General Election, in order to avoid any tampering with referendum poll votes.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the issue you raise is not the responsibility of the Government or Parliament. The UK Government and Parliament are not responsible for directing the police to guard all ballot boxes. It would be the responsibility of individual returning officers to request a police presence at a polling station.

You could start a petition calling on Parliament to legislate to require the police to attend polling stations during an election.
