Insist UK Members of European Parliament take steps to engage with constituents

Petition Details

Every four years, EU citizens are asked to vote on democratic representatives in the European Parliament (MEPs). Yet, very few people know who their MEP is. If the UK votes to remain in the European Union, the Government should call for MEPs to be more accessible and open to their constituents.

Additional Information

Various surveys showing how much people know about their MEP

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the issue you raise is not the responsibility of the Government or Parliament. The UK Government and Parliament is not responsible for Members of the European Parliament. You could start a petition calling on the UK Government and Parliament to urge the European Parliament to encourage MEPs to engage more with constituents.

Alternatively you could petition the European Parliament to encourage MEPs to engage more with constituents. You can find out how to petition the European Parliament here: petiport.secure.europarl.europa.eu//petitions/en/main
