children should never be the main carer for a family member
Children under 16, or 18 if still in full time education should not be expected to be carers for a parent or other family member. They should only be expected to help at home like any other child. We would not allow children this age to do this as paid work, so it should not be any more acceptable when it is unpaid. Children are entitled to a childhood and need to concentrate on their education. They should not be encumbered with adult responsibilities
