Petition Action

For MPs to agree with the Royal College of Physician about e-cigarettes.

Petition Details

For MPS to sign Anne Mains early motion 1441, agreeing with the Royal College of Physicians that the EU TPD would significantly inhibit the use of harm-reduction products by smokers.

Additional Information

E-cigarettes are around 95 per cent less harmful than smoking, restricting advertising will have the perverse effect of reducing the rate at which cigarette use is declining. The total cost of smoking to society, including NHS, social care, lost productivity, litter and fires, was conservatively estimated to be around £14 billion per year; and calls on the Government to exclude e-cigarettes and other harm-reduction products from the TPD.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

This petition seems to be asking individual MPs to sign EDM 1441. That is a decision for individual MPs to make, not a decision for the House of Commons as a whole.

You could start a new petition asking the Government and Parliament not to transpose the TPD into UK law.
