Petition Action

Amend Forestry Byelaws to aid the rescue of injured animals to prevent suffering

Petition Details

Amend Statutory instrument 1982 no 648 the forestry commission byelaw xviii to allow exceptions for animal rescues to assist injured animals.
FC staff only work M-F 9-3, no ranger service outside these hours. In addition not every animal that is injured needs to be shot and deserve to be helped.

Additional Information

The Animal Welfare Act 2006 (c.45 Prevention of harm, Unnecessary Suffering) contradicts this byelaw and makes it clear that a person commits an offence if we do not act immediately;
• an act of his, or a failure of his to act, causes an animal to suffer, (b) he knew, or ought reasonably to have known, that the act, or failure to act, would have that effect or be likely to do so, (c ) the animal is a protected animal, and (d) the suffering is unnecessary.
