Petition Action

Make new build housing gardens more wildlife friendly

Petition Details

New builds are destroying our wildlife, they are concrete jungles on what was once wildlife sanctuary, they have concrete fenced manicured lawns with no hedgerow or safety for wildlife, nowhere for birds to land and nest safe without fear of cats, nowhere for hedgehogs to feed, roam and get to safety

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We're not sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.

You could start a new petition calling on Parliament to change planning laws so that specific measures are incorporated into new build garden designs to support wildlife habitats. You would need to explain clearly how you would like the law to change, e.g. to require a minimum number of established trees/bird boxes per square meter of developed land.

An example of a similar petition which we recently accepted, and which you may like to sign, is: "Change planning laws so all New House Builds must have hedgehog holes in fences" - petition.parliament.uk/petitions/119873
