Petition Details

For years the GCSE Grade boundaries have been doing nothing but increasing, putting more stress and anxiety onto hard work kids. This is too much to be putting on a 16 year old and the government need to acknowledge this. How can a group of individuals with many talents be tested on the same means..

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We cannot accept your petition because the UK Government or Parliament is not responsible for the issue you raise. Grade boundaries are set by exam boards. Exam boards are regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual), which regulates qualifications, examinations and assessments in England.

You can make a complaint to Ofqual about the organisations it regulates, including complaining about grade boundaries set by individual exam boards. Further information about how to complain is available here: www.gov.uk/government/organisations/ofqual/about/complaints-procedure.

Alternatively, you could start a new petition calling on the Government to reverse the changes it has made to the subject content from which exam boards develop their specifications (which are approved by Ofqual). Over the past few years the Government has redesigned subject content to make the qualifications more challenging. You could ask for this policy to be reversed.
