Legislate for Anonymity Until Proven Guilty
The law presumes us to be innocent until proven guilty. Mass media identification of those linked with alleged crimes can wreck their lives without trial. They may only give evidence, never get charged or ultimately be acquitted.
Minors are usually left unnamed for legal reasons, so why not adults?
We ask, therefore, that legislation be enacted so that people are not named or otherwise identified through mass media at least until: they have been found guilty, the publicity is shown to be necessary by the justice system for operational reasons, or individuals make their own choice to go public.
