Create degrees and masters level apprenticeships for art and design disciplines.
Governments changes to creative education could contribute to the ‘collapse’ of an industry worth billions to the UK economy. Apprenticeships in Higher Education should be available as these cover creative industry skills, requirements and occupational necessities. This increases many opportunities.
Academic research by Birmingham City University looked at changes to design practice, policy and education over the last decade and demonstrated that the subject was being increasingly marginalised. The report, titled Beyond Discipline: Design Practice and Design Education in the 21st Century, which was published by the University’s Strategic Creativity Research Lab, found that design was being devalued by Government despite the industry accounting for 3.5 per cent of the country’s GDP.
