Petition Action

food and drink labelled if it's low glycemic index, bigger low G.I range

Petition Details

It's caused by to much insulin in your body if i have an item I can't eat it makes me very ill memory loss, lethargy, hunger, irritability etc it is very hard to find things I can eat and there isn't a wide range available this affects me every day so will be extremely helpful to me and others

Additional Information

3.9 million people in the uk have diabetes and vulnerable to having hypoglycemia aswell then you've got thousands of people who've hypoglycemia alone I've got no medication or treatment just told to change my diet, then I'm faced the near impossible task of trying to discover what I can eat. Making this widely known and available would also help with knowledge and hopefully prevention helping everyone lead easier lives. Caffeine, white flour, potatoes are just some of what we can't have.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

You petition seems to be asking food manufacturers to take this action. You could start a new petition calling on Parliament to change the law, to require manufacturers to label low GI food and drink.

Creating bigger ranges of low GI foods would be a decision for food manufacturers and retailers, not the Government or Parliament. You could ask the Government to encourage manufacturers and shops to do this - for example, by offering incentives through the tax system.
