Regulate wasteful, non-essential overnight lighting of non-residential buildings
Seeking to improve & regulate employer's environmental policies requiring shops, offices and public sector buildings to turn off all unnecessary lighting overnight, allowing local councils to make exceptions for Christmas and other special occasions, and in certain tourist or cultural areas, only.
Follow the example of France, which introduced in 2013 the new law seeking to significantly reduce light pollution and carbon emissions by allowing local authorities to enforce fines on businesses breaking the rules, while cutting off power to repeat offenders.
The rules should seek to target non-essential overnight lighting of shop windows and the fronts of buildings, making businesses greener & aware of their social responsibility, while significantly cutting carbon emissions per annum.
