Extend the voting period for the EU referendum and allow those aged 16 to vote.

Petition Details

Scotland's referendum in 2014 allowed those aged 16 and 17 to vote, yet this was not permitted during the EU referendum. Many of us at school are only a few months too young to vote, and are frustrated that a once in a lifetime decision is being made, and we are denied a voice in our future.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The EU referendum has already taken place. It is therefore no longer possible for the franchise (the groups of people who are entitled to vote) to be changed.
