Petition Action

Strengthen safeguards against use of propaganda and misinformation in politics.

Petition Details

In the aftermath of a vote to leave the EU it appears that a main 'leave' slogan promising money for the NHS was designed as intentional propaganda to mislead voters. The person responsible should be held accountable and safeguards strengthened to ensure this kind of situation does not happen again.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We're not sure what kind of safeguards you would like there to be. We already have a petition which calls for it to be illegal for political figures to lie or mislead:

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/119416

You might like to sign this petition instead. Otherwise, you could start a new petition explaining clearly what specific action you would like the Government or Parliament to take.
