Petition Action

All voters need to pass a test to show they understand what they are voting for.

Petition Details

Following the EU referendum it was clear that 1000's of people voted without having any understanding or rationale for why they voted a certain way. Many media sources have shown clips of voters admitting that they did not know why they had voted a certain way. Please see Additional details.

Additional Information

It should be the responsibility of all voters to research the issues in hand and going forward voters will need to demonstrate they have a brief understanding of the issues they are voting on by completing a short assessment.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

It's not clear in what way you want electors' understanding to be tested, the issues which would be examined or what threshold of knowledge and understanding would be required. It's also unclear how you want Parliament or the Government to be involved with this. We cannot accept petitions which do not call for clear and specific action by the UK Government or Parliament.
