Petition Action

Declare the EU referendum void, as those most affected were denied a say

Petition Details

There are over 1.5 million 16-17 year olds in the UK, and the leave majority was only 1,269,501.

If those who have the greatest stake had had their say it could have overturned the leave majority. The youngest are the people who will be affected by the decision the longest.

Additional Information

We give people from 16 many of the responsibilities of adulthood: they can leave school, have a job, join the military, get married; at 17 they can drive. Under Scottish legislature these citizens already have the vote.

Up to the age of 44 Remain had a majority. Extending democracy to those who should have a voice is significant.
