Trans issues should be taught as part of Personal, Social and Health Education
Trans issues should be taught as part of Personal, Social and Health Education. Also, Gender-variant young people should get sufficient support at school. Schools need to understand their responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 and must ensure all staff receive training.
The House of Commons Women and Equalities Committee published a report in January 2016 with regards to Transgender Equality. Within this report it was established that more needs to be done to ensure that gender-variant young people receive support in school. the Equality and Human Rights Commission stated that research shows that 91% of trans boys and 66% of trans girls experience harassment or bullying at school, leading to depression, isolation and the desire to leave education.
