Provide a way to account for children's opinion on issues affecting their future
14 million under 18s live in the UK and aren't able to vote. According to Unicef they have the right for their views to be heard and respected. When important debates are taking place, directly affecting their future, we propose that their opinions should be officially collated by Government.
.UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, Article 12 (respect for the views of the child) and Article 13 (freedom of expression).
.Improving the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development of pupils: Departmental advice for independent schools, academies and free schools (DfE November 2013, p5)
.Section 78 of the Education Act 2002
.UNICEF- Promoting Children's Participation in Democratic Decision Making (Gerison Lansdown, UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre, ISBN: 88-85401-73-2)
