Petition Details

Young people in Britain voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU. 16 and 17-year-olds, who will have to live with the consequences of the decision the longest, were denied a voice. They must be given a say before the government takes the final and irreversible decision to leave the European Union.

75% of people aged 18-24 claimed they voted for Remain in the YouGov survey after voting closed

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The EU referendum has already taken place. It is therefore no longer possible for the franchise (the groups of people who are entitled to vote) to be changed.
