HM Government should call a general election at the earliest possible date.
In light of the recent referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union and the Prime Minister's subsequent resignation, we the undersigned call upon HM Government and the House of Commons to resolve that there shall be a parliamentary general election held at the earliest possible date.
It is time for a new UK Government. One which will pledge to keep the UK in the European Union and out of economic recession.
Section 2 of the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act 2011 provides that a general election can be held before the end of the fixed five-year period from the general election if the House of Commons, with the support of two-thirds of its total membership (including vacant seats), resolves "that there shall be an early parliamentary general election".
