Hold a 2nd EU Referendum to include voice of U18s as required by UNCRC
Under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), Article 12, the Referendum should have included the voice of U18s, who are affected by the result and whose vote may well have changed it. The process was therefore unrepresentative, contravening UNCRC, a 2nd Referendum should be held.
UNCRC Article 12: Children's right to express their views in all matters affecting them, including political. U18s could not vote in the EU Referendum, so their voice missed in one-off irreversible decision affecting them greatly. Younger people voted overwhelmingly to Remain, inc. 75% aged 18-24. 16-17 yr olds voted in Scottish Referendum, a similar children's vote may have changed the result (with almost 2m aged 16-17 in UK).
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The EU referendum has already taken place. It is therefore no longer possible for the franchise (the groups of people who are entitled to vote) to be changed.
If you would like the UK voting age to be lowered to 16, you might like to sign this petition instead:
