Set up a public inquiry to examine the regulation of political campaigns.
“...political campaign material in the UK is not regulated...it is a matter for voters to decide...whether they consider it accurate or not.” - Electoral Commission
We, the undersigned, ask for a wide-ranging public inquiry, similar to the Leveson inquiry, to be set up to consider the following:
1) Is there sufficient independent regulation in place to ensure that political campaigns and individuals act in line with the Nolan principles*?
2) Should a regulator be given the authority to regulate political advertising?
3) Should the media be required to include political balance in news articles?
