Petition Action

HM Government to not invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty.

Petition Details

The signatories petition HM Government to not invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty. The referendum vote has no credibility. It is the result of misleading campaigning and is less than 60% of a turnout of less than 75%.

Additional Information

Under Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, any Member State may decide to withdraw from the Union in accordance with its own constitutional requirements.

The 2016 EU referendum vote is advisory not mandatory therefore the vote is not a "decision" for the purpose of Article 50. The decision must be made in accordance with the UK's own constitutional requirements and no such decision has been made.
