Should the prime minister be a volunteer role

Additional Information

Considering the role, and the perks it brings, even after leaving office them perks continue to some degree, not to mention the other opportunities it opens up, book signings, public speaking and probably more important, having your name writen for all time as a figure in history, should we expect the tax payer to foot the bill for housing someone in a house were most people could only dream of living and paying them a huge salary?
