Petition Action

The Prime Minister to ignore the referendum result, put to parliamentary debate

Petition Details

The EU Referendum result is not a clear cut result based on the turnout percentage and in/out margins. Parliament is sovereign, referendums generally not binding in the UK. Mainstream political parties divided on Europe; parties' supporters divided, nobody is going to want to prominently campaign.

Additional Information

The Electoral Commission rules: •they should be well-run and produce results that are accepted -•there should be integrity and transparency of campaign funding and expenditure.
We were not given a clear picture of exactly what would happen if we stayed in or went out.
An article by Professor John Curtice details the PM doesn't have to accept the result from the public alone.
