Do not invoke Article 50 without a public consultation and parliamentary debate.
The undersigned, whether we voted to leave or remain, believe that the UK should not invoke Article 50 until a public consultation and parliamentary debate and vote has taken place. We should establish what relationship we do want with the EU before we commit to leave irrevocably.
The U.K. voted to leave the EU by 52% to 48% on Thursday 23rd of June. However it is not clear exactly what relationship the British people would like with the EU. Article 50 entails a 2 year maximum period to negotiate a withdrawal and is irreversible. The U.K. has been greatly divided by the referendum and we should reach a national consensus and compromise on what future relationship we do want before invoking Article 50.
