Petition Action

Criminalise politicians and the media for lying, misleading or misinforming.

Petition Details

The EU referendum was the biggest decision in modern history. But the decision made was based on lies, misinformation and speculation. We need an independent body with the power to impose legal repercussions on politicians and media organisations for circulating misleading or untrue claims.

Additional Information

Gisela Stuart, Boris Johnson and Michael Gove said:
"After we Vote Leave, there won’t be a sudden change that disrupts the economy." Yet the Brexit vote triggered the biggest fall in the pound in history.
Nigel Farage disowns Vote Leave '£350m for the NHS pledge' hours after EU referendum result. Also, the £350 million figure was deemed 'misleading' (UK Statistics Authority).
The Sun published "The Queen backs Brexit" - Buckingham Palace complained to IPSO about this claim.
