Increase Student Maintenance Loan With Special Dispensation

Additional Information

Students who can prove that they need to be entitled to more money by using bank statements and living situations as evidence should be entitled to borrow a limited additional sum of money at an increased rate of interest if they really want to.

It is unfair that some students in London who get the maximum loan and grant receive over £8,300 with almost £3,000 simply given to them whilst students studying elsewhere who ask for the maximum they are entitled to might only be able to borrow around £3,500 because the government wants their parents to pay for them. Which is fair, but may not be possible in the current climate.

A scheme of this nature would make more money for the government in future through increased payments at a higher interest.

This system should ONLY be considered for those living away from home and ONLY those who are entitled to the lowest maximum loan.
