Require that Article 50 can only be invoked with parliamentary approval
The undersigned believe that Parliament must agree to invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty before the European Council can be notified of our intention to withdraw from the EU.
A member state can leave the European Union by invoking Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty 'in accordance with its own constitutional requirements'.
When a member state makes the decision to withdraw it has to notify the European Council of its intention.
Parliament is sovereign in our democracy, not referendums. The EU referendum was advisory, not mandatory - a gauge of public opinion, not an executive decision.
Our elected representatives must decide based on the interests of the country.
