Make politicians accountable for breaking promises made in political campaigns.
Politicians often appear to gain power or win referendums with promises that significantly influenced the public vote. When big promises are reneged on, the only consequences seem to be a period of public moaning. It appears there's little to lose by making empty promises, and everything to gain.
In the absence of obvious explanations (such as unexpected and unpredictable change of circumstances), if it is clear that a promise or pledge was substantially influential to voters but reneged on, it should be incumbent on a party or politician to explain to a public committee why they could not fulfil a significant promise.
