State Funding of Political Candidates for Westminster Elections
I would like the government to provide funds to candidates standing for elections to the House of Commons in accordance with my proposal set out in: http://www.freeratio.org/showthread.php?t=305817
Funds should be allocated to the candidates in a ranking system of money that they deserve on the basis of the petition numbers, eg
1000 signatures - £ 500
10,000 signatures - £5,000
100,000 signatures - £50,000
It is a good scheme because petitioners sponsoring a candidate will have to be convinced that they are signing a good cause and a candidate so that candidates that are no hopers or who cannot demonstrate a proven track record of having done social work or studied economics or the environment etc will not be be able to get signatures that will entitle them to the state funding. It will give good candidates a level playing field to try and win elections to Westminister.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.
You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
